This and That : Family Room Decor

At our cottage, the kitchen and the family room our the heart of the home

On a daily basis, we spend most of our time in these rooms.  Despite the cottage being an older home, we are fortunate to have a well-designed open floor plan.  Years ago, the previous-previous owners bumped out the kitchen.  Boy are we glad they did the dirty work for us!  From the first time I laid eyes on the cottage, I couldn't wait to dig right into the renovation of these rooms.  We've already painted the cabinets and walls in the kitchen and have replaced all of the appliances {besides the built in fridge...which is still ticking by the way!}  I thought that would hold me over.  Eh, not so much.  I'm patiently awaiting the O.K. from the hubs to order new countertops, a backsplash, and a farmhouse sink.  Even one of those items would rock my world.  Are you reading this honey?  I'm sorta kidding!  All of my decorator friends can understand the predicament I'm in.  Being so design conscious, it's difficult living with laminate when you dream soapstone and marble.  Life, I tell ya.

As far as the family room goes, it's been a process as well.  Do you remember when we discovered a hole in the fireplace that a lovely mirror so gracefully camouflaged?  We continue to live with the hole.  Fortunately, Rob's uncle is an expert carpenter.  Unfortunately, because he's so talented he rarely has time to relax.  We're trying to be patient.  That's difficult for me.  We plan on recessing the flat screen T.V. and adding some decorative bead board and molding.  We're also patiently awaiting the couch and love seat that we ordered months back.  The couches are lovely.  Think... slip covered and creamy white!  Washable too!

Needless to say, the kitchen and the family room are in the midst of some really awesome changes.  When they'll be complete it another story.  Until then, I'd like to share some of the colors and furniture pieces that will eventually occupy the family room.

{pillows are a dream}
If your on a budget, pillows can be a great option.
They can entirely change the vibe of a room.
My heart throbs for some embroidered pillows.
At PB they are high way robbery, but they are just too good to pass up.

The room will pop with colors like pistachio (my favorite!), salmon,
 and even robin's egg blue!

...and so many more things i love...

I guess that's why they call it a forever home.
You have a lifetime to make it yours.

Moral of the blog story?
Try to be patient.
