Antique Overload = Loads of Fun

Happy Monday!
What a weekend...

Rob and I went on a true treasure hunt this weekend.  Our main purpose for the trip was to find objects for the soon-to-be mudroom / laundry room.  Boy, was that a difficult task.  I'm talking eye-candy galore, friends.  We both had to keep reminding one another of why we were there.  Don't worry, I'll show you some of the things that we had to leave behind.  Things I may, eventually, have to go back for!
                                     WARNING
                              Picture Overload

{stop 1}

{stop 2}

Both places had a ton of treasuers to go ga-ga for.
Here are some things that caught our eye.

{blue chippy front porch rocker}

{bond bread energy screen door}
We were in search for a door on this trip for the area between our laundry room and kitchen.
Too bad this was too big (and too expensive!)

{antique liquid barometer}
This is one of those things we continue to talk and think about.

{bread and cake cabinet}
Need I say more?  Probably, by far, the best item we had to leave behind.
I will...I repeat, will, go back to see if it's still there.
Someday.

{fresh candies box}
Pure loveliness.

{antique seed cabinet}

{vintage numbered lockers}

It's getting hot in here, no?
By the way, this weekend was scorching HOT.
Check this out...

{curly hair without the help of an iron}
Crazy, right?
Impact of humidity and crazy unbearable heat...

OK, OK, back to antiques!

Now, for what we took home.

{bench for laundry room}

{iron claw foot feet}
tee-hee-hee!
A $25.00 steal!

{a once in a lifetime find}
Gotta' give props to my mama for pointing this one out.

{antique door}
Scored for $15.00 buckaroos.

{propped up in his new home}
We plan to refinish the door and cut a piece of glass for the top portion of the door.

SNEAK PEEK

{stripping door}
We don't mess around.

{area rug for laundry room}
Not an antique, but too good to pass up!

A few small items I snuck in.
Shhh...

{antique honey jar}

{antique dish pedestal and tiny mason jar}
The mason jar has three medium sized holes on the lid.
 Could work at a parmesan cheese shaker or tooth pick holder?

{chippy family scale}

After a day like this, it was off to bed for us.

Projects to share...coming very soon!

My Wonderwall

Today is gonna be the day
That they're gonna throw it back to you
By now you should've somehow
Realized what you gotta do
...
{oasis lyrics}

When titling this blog entry, wonderwall came to mind.  I couldn't help but add some lyrics from the song Wonderwall by Oasis.  Great tune.  Unfortunately, this entry has nothing to do with oasis or their songs.  Sorry to disappoint.  Rather, it has to do with my guest room wonder wall.  The guest bedroom is the only room in the entire cottage that still had wallpaper.  I actually didn't mind it.  Rob really despised it.  So, it had to go!  I firmly believe that each person needs to be happy or it's no cigaro.  I was secretly wishing for the wall to look like this when removing the paper.
How cool is this?  The walls look like a map.
Absolutely magical.

Once in a Blue Moon

If you had to guess how often you paint a room, what would your answer be?  I'm going to take a guess.  Once in a blue moon?  For many home owners and renters (whose landlords allow painting!) a room is painted and often left that way for quite some time.  The paintaholic in me does prefer changing it up.  However, Rob and I try our best to choose paint colors that we'd truly miss if we decided to paint over them.  Thus, choosing the right color is crucial.  Said it before and I'll say it again.  I apologize if it's repetitious.

Since our last post on paint and color swatches, a lot has changed at the cottage.  I am a firm believer that is often takes one full coat rolled onto the walls to get the true picture of how the color will appear in your space.  I'd love to gloat and proclaim that those itty bitty swatches and my color stories always work out flawlessly.  A color in one house or in one room may not translate in another.  For that reason, I often take precaution when viewing colors over the web.  Don't say I didn't warn you.   Okay, sorry, back to why things have changed at the cottage.  Just call me out when I decide to go on a tangent about color.  Can you tell I'm passionate?  ;)

While we weren't entirely decided on what hue each room would don, we did have a pretty good clue.  Boy have things changed.  As of yesterday, I was begininning to see too much beige. Eck.  While our favorite go to colors tend to be in the white and cream family, we do want some cheeriness and pop at the cottage and above all see the white dove trim really get the praise it deserves.  I began looking to blue for some answers.  We'd like to see our ceiling in the sunroom and walls in the mudroom get the same muted shade of blue.  It appears that blue is the theme for the day...blue moon...blue walls...boy do I got the blues!

A true blue gal, deserves some true blue walls.  Let me show you some of the blues that have been up for discussion at the cottage.

Do you have the blues like I do?

We're diggin' our kitchen colors!
So far, so good.

Shop Till' You Drop!

Sometimes you gotta get out.  Recently, most of my time has been occupied by cleaning, organizing, and contractors.  While most of the work at the cottage will be done by me and the hubs, we've had to hire a few people to aid us in the beginning stages of our purchase.  It's tough to truly get anything accomplished when you have people wondering around your house asking you, and only you, each and every question. While I enjoy being captain of the cottage, sometimes the walls start closing in on you and you've had enough.  Nothing a shopping trip can't fix.  Fortunately, even after a long day of work, Rob agreed to the outing.  Gosh, I love that man.  Jump in the car and crank the AC.  It's been HOT out here.

Home Goods ring a bell?
Yeah, let's stop there.

I characterize Home Goods as a "sometimes" store.  Sometimes you find something, sometimes you don't.  Sometimes it's a good deal, sometimes not good enough.  Let's take a peek.

{tolix chair}
For a reproduction and with it's affordable price tag, it's a great deal.
It resembles Anthropologie's much more expensive Redsmith dining chair.

{anthropologie redsmith dining chair for $198 buckaroos}

Sometimes I'm into quote art, other times not so much.
Rob pointed this one out and I couldn't help but agree.
This is cute and large enough to be a conversation starter!

This lantern caught our eye.  The color of the frame and the mirror on the inside stood out.

That's all we got folks!
Just Kidding!

I couldn't stop there.  World Market was right across the way!

Heat and Rob don't mix well.
Yikes he looks mad.
Good thing I'm not afraid...

Off we went!

{aiden coffee table}

{campaign chair}

{jackson table + jackson tub chairs}

lots' of industrial looks for fair prices...

{love this rug}
future plans?

While we would have loved to take all those goodies home with us, it just wasn't possible.  But we were able to snatch up a few things to bring home.

{wire basket from home goods and glasses from world market}

While the rest of us were trying to stay cool...
